Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hits theaters on June 30, 2023. This may be the perfect set to make you feel like a kid again. More than any other set, you’ll find yourself going back to this one to make to temple collapse, swing a panicked Indy over the chasm, or roll the boulder down its track. The Temple of the Golden Idol is a beautiful build, but its dynamic features are meant to be used, played with, and enjoyed. Most adult LEGO sets are meant to be built, then put away and admired. The Temple of Doom set may be the only one that can rival the new Temple of the Golden Idol set in regards to the coolness factor, but while the mine cart race might set you back a thousand bucks, you can pick up the Temple of the Golden Idol is just $149.99 (at least until they discontinue it).Īnd, while this set is almost guaranteed to rise in value over time, it’s really the apex of an adult LEGO build: the perfect mixture of form and function. (What happens at eleven o’clock?!!)Īnd if you’re a completionist with a hefty bank account, you can dig into the LEGO archives on eBay and dig up some of the classic LEGO Indiana Jones sets from 2009, the coolest of which may be the LEGO Indiana Jones The Temple of Doom set, which recreates the insane mine cart escape. The Sean Connery minifigure here makes this a must-buy. Twist it to the right, and the idol ominously sinks down and the huge stone face behind it falls forward as the cave structure starts to collapse, just like it did in the film.Īll of these features come together to create a fun, compact representation of one of the most enduring scenes in film history, and it pairs well with the other two new sets, the LEGO Indiana Jones: Escape from the Lost Tomb and LEGO Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Fighter Plane Chase. If you twist it to the left, the idol rises on its pedestal as a red light brick illuminates it from overhead. The final knob controls the pedestal of the golden idol itself. But, as always, the real treasure lies in the deepest recesses of the cave. Each one controls a dynamic feature: The rolling boulder, the wall that drops, and Sapito swinging over that deadly pit all create a dynamic feel. Meanwhile, the evil Belloq was played by Paul Freeman.)īut the main appeal of the set is in the four skull-printed knobs that line the base of the build. (In case you forgot, Sapito was played by the one and only Alfred “Doc Ock” Molina. And in addition to the Indiana Jones minifigure (which alone makes the set worthwhile), it comes with Sapito, Rene Belloq, and a Hovitos tribesman minifigures as well. Details like the dart-blowing faces in the idol chamber and the corpse next to the spike trap will delight fans of the series, and the foliage throughout the build gives it an air of LEGO-style authenticity. The largest of the three newest LEGO Indiana Jones set timed to release with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny- out in theaters on June 30 - this 1,545-piece Temple of the Golden Idol set is a blast to build and is chock-full of Easter eggs for the hard-core Indy fan. Along the way, he survives tarantulas, a wall of spikes, poison blowdarts, a bottomless pit, and a giant rolling boulder, all of which are lovingly recreated in LEGO’s new Indiana Jones: Temple of the Golden Idol set. Back in 1981, Raiders of the Lost Ark brought Indiana Jones into the world, introducing us to the iconic adventure as he puzzled his way through a series of booby traps to secure (and ultimately lose) a golden idol. How does Citrix think about those two words, mobile and desktop? And how did that shape the responsive product? Mike:Īctually one of the first things that I did when we first kicked off this project was I did a presentation to the entire group, and one of the parts of that presentation was to go right at some of those preconceptions that people were going to have about mobile. We’ve matured past that a little bit, but one of the things I hear when talking to people that are redesigning intranets is that there’s almost a desktop context when you’re designing for internal users who might be seated at workstations or the like. One thing that struck me in listening to you is in the early days of responsive design, there was all this talk about the so-called mobile context, that mobile users were on the go, running down the street trying to catch a bus, so we should be providing them with less information. One of our key drivers, and it goes right in line with what Citrix tries to promote with all the products and services that we sell, was this any time, any where, any device connectivity. The bigger challenges came around trying to convince people to not jump in and start designing a website, but to drop back and start looking at their content. They just didn’t have anybody here at that time who had much experience with responsive, and that’s why I was hired on in the beginning. Like I said, they brought me on specifically because they had decided to do the intranet responsive. I’m always intrigued when organizations say that responsive “was a given” or a “no-brainer.” Were there any challenges in those initial conversations? Any concerns, frustrations, or difficult discussions that you had to have around responsive as an approach or a methodology? Mike: The buy-in was pretty straightforward, and once that was done we were off to the races. It was amazing how different it became once we got all the right people in the room at the same time and level set everybody on how we would approach things. I met with everybody, we held a huge team meeting up front, we got key stakeholders from pretty much every department that really hadn’t tackled this project or anything like this in that way prior. I came back in and proposed that “we need to work content out, think mobile first, and then build up progressive enhancement,” and all of those fun buzzwords that everybody is using. Responsive was already a given but what they really didn’t have was a great strategy at the beginning. We all dropped back and started from scratch and that’s when I went in and proposed that we start working this from a whole different perspective. The project had been started by a different team within Citrix and when they realized that it kind of wasn’t getting to where they wanted to go-no fault to the people who were currently working on it-but it just wasn’t progressing the way they had thought. I was brought in specifically because of having some background in responsive design from my previous place, so I just jumped right in. That became one of our foundations for how we wanted to rebuild the whole thing and make it much more search-centric rather than a very navigation-driven type of experience. Probably the single biggest one that we had heard about was the really poor relevancy of search results. But we noticed there were some issues with that. It was previously built on SharePoint, which is pretty common for most intranets. The intranet serves about 10,000 employees. I was the lead UX architect on our redesign of the corporate intranet. So, perhaps tell us a little bit about that. This is the first time we’ve had a guest on the show that’s going to talk about a responsive intranet. I’d love it if you could introduce yourself tell us a little bit about what you do at Citrix. Karen:Īnd this week I am just about beside myself with excitement to have Mike Donahue from Citrix joining us. Ethan:Īnd I’m your other host, Ethan Marcotte. Hi, this is a responsive web design podcast, where we interview the people who make responsive designs happen. There're different ways to consume an API but we take this approach in first place, because Vue.js already adopt it, there's more information into Vue.js Cookbook chapter the chapter named Using Axios to Consume APIs. /axios/dist/: Īs you might noticed, we are defining three entries, those are the following ones: Some importans questions regarding to what resource type we need, then it will be created properly.īased on Drupal documentation about " Adding stylesheets (CSS) and JavaScript (JS) to a Drupal 8 module" we need to include a new file named "vue_" at root of our custom module, axios: It seems a simple block plugin, and actually it is, a raw block plugin where we need to expose our Vue application.įirstly we need to create a new Rest resource plugin within our new custom module, it can be easily achieve by executing a Drupal Console command, drupal generate:plugin:rest:resource -module vue_todo Next step we need to generate a block plugin to expose our Vue.js component, drupal generate:plugin:block -module=vue_todo It might looks crazy but it is not, those questions are configurations to define what we want to, so far, we only have one file, vue_info.yml which's our module heart to work with Drupal. We need to create a new custom module, then let's use Drupal Console for that task, drupal generate:module -module vue_todo Have you heard about "The power of one line of code?" kinda sorta, it's pretty much everything what we need to download and install that contribute module. We are about to use Drupal Console to download and install RestUI module. Once DrupalVM is up and running, we have a fresh Drupal 8 installation where we go to create our TODO List by using Vue.js. A tool to generate boilerplate code, interact with and debug Drupal), since we go to run some commands to make some stuff done.Īt last but not least, a contributed module named REST UI (A user interface for configuring Drupal 8's REST module) to manage a rest resource that we are about to create, It will provide you everything what you need, as an example Drupal Console (The Drupal CLI. In order to have everything ready to get started, I usually recomment to setup your local enviroment by using what you feel more familar, in my case, I choose to use a virtual-machine to host my local environment, Drupal VM (A VM for Drupal, built with Ansible), I won't explain how to setup it however it's pretty straightforward, Is there a simplest way to put them together without an headache? There are cases where you need to improve your UX, then you might think on include a powerful javascript framework, however it seems that you need to install some extra pieces of software to just get started, even tho if you only want to include one single feature.Īs a backend guy, sometimes to include this kind of new feature would take your time in order to setup everything regarding with theming bases, however this article is about to plug and play, plug-in Vue.js in a simplest way then play with Drupal 8 to create your new cool feature within a custom module without need to get out of module scope. Warner Bros inadvertently fanned the smoke by only today confirming its press conference attendee list without Pugh’s name. Calling Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde’s relationship a stunt, one online user shared a detailed note on exactly what happened between the now ex-lovers. This was always the plan, and attention is being paid only after a candid and provocative cover story on Wilde by our sibling publication Variety, followed by La Beouf’s social media refutation of Wilde’s assertion she fired him. Emma Hope Allwood writes about how livestreaming affected the fashion industry: The show was also one of the first to live-stream the collection, allowing people not present to watch. McQueen was one of the first to use 3D-printing as a part of his show for example, the shoes in figure 8 are 3D-printed. Plato’s Atlantis was a show far ahead of its time. His friend, Tomas, would wield the unearthly armor of the Valheru and command the armies of Elvandar to fight the final titanic battle at Sethanon. The legends tell of a boy named Pug who would become Master Magician. Besides there is a certain profound peculiarity about our species `and culture`s inclination to transmit information and create (fictious) realities with the use of stories that I think plays a vital role in the RPG genre.Betrayal at Krondor: Midkemia – a realm of enchantment and ancient magic where elves, dwarves and man once battled an unimaginable evil across rifts in time and space. I believe these two elements do not necessarily exclude (but rather complement) each other since they exist on different levels of content presentation. This element seems to have been replaced in modern gaming era by the element of graphic representation. the article really made me think about the element of good writing in RPG games and its role in the presentation of the game`s fictious world and its characters. Especially since when I first played it, I didn`t finished it owing to my inexperience and a formatted diskītw. Reading the review I was possessed by a certain strange nostalgia which I think will soon result in me obtaining a copy of the game again and give it one more try. A lot of it probably owing to the fact that it was also one of the first RPGs I encountered. I think RtK is a good game for RPG beginners, BaK is a highlight for experts and BiA is not worth playing anymore.īetrayal at Krondor was definitely one of the best RPGs I ever played. In an interview with PCPlayer he called the game "not an RPG, but a fantasy experience", hence the mini games and the nearly JRPG like structure of the game. Feist wanted to do something more original than Betrayal at Krondor. It is more than ironic that Feist landed back at Sierra with Return to Krondor (which originally would've been called "Tear of the Gods" as was the later released novel) after 7th level went bancrupt. Having no Feist name on the box and the uneven art style (comic look character portraits) was a killer, too. The fact that the game was an early Windows product and quite bug ridden didn't help either. The game is bloated by unnecessary combat and is heavily railroaded - in an open world environment, no less. (read the introduction to the BoA manual)īetrayal at Antara was a competent piece of work by people who on the one hand tried to imitate Feist's genius and on the other hand had no clue what makes an RPG work. The following fallout between Sierra and Feist found the planned sequels dead in its tracks and it is only because of one Sierra employee's stubborness that Betrayal at Antara was produced - and the fact that the engine did cost so much. I remember the german Powerplay magazine rewarding the game an 85% score but heavily criticizing the slow engine. The license and the production did cost a fortune and the sales were a bit lesser than expected due to very high system requirements of the fiightsim 3D engine. I think you have to consider several point if you want to compare those 3 games in a fair manner.īetrayal at Krondor was an experiment at the absolute peak of Sierra/Dynamix success in the business. The alchemy system wasn't too bad but I seem to recall that there were a lot of heavy pieces to lug around. Plus the combat system was done well, not as well as in the original but still pretty good and I definatly liked playing one of Fiest's main characters Jimmy the Hand. There was magic but the equipment had a different feel than the normal RPG. The thing I liked about these games is that there were no "Longsword +1" or huge amounts of magic weapons in the world. A lot more linear than the first but it was fun. I think they were trying to recreate Pug in Fiest's books but fell far short of that goal. I ended up playing a few more days and even though I did like some of the features in the game like how you leveled and the bead chests, but I just couldn't finish it or even get halfway. I later found out about all the bad blood between Sierra and Fiest and why he pulled his name and world from the sequel. Sierra pulled a fast one by naming the game almost exactly the same as the first. After a couple of hours of playing I figured out that this game had nothing to do with Fiest at all. I figured, at the time, that this was a part of Fiest's world he hadn't wrote about yet. I couldn't recognize any of the characters, races or locations from any of Fiest's books. Which sequel are you talking about Betrayal at Antara or Return to Krondor? When I bought Betrayal at Antara and started to play I was totally confused. |
